Autumn may be the end of one gardening year but it is also the time when we begin planning the next and there is no better place to start than to choose the bright spring colours that will burst out to cheer us all up after those short dark winter days.
There are spring bulbs for every situation: shady or sunny spots, beds and borders, patio pots, window boxes or scattered through your lawn. They also come in every colour to suit every palate: red tulips, yellow daffodils, white snowdrops, blue muscari.
Choose complementary colours to create an elegant look or the brightest you can find to explode your senses. As well as being a feast for our eyes, spring bulbs are an important food source for hungry queen bees when they first emerge from hibernation on a warm spring day.
