Green Policy
We believe in operating a socially responsible and environmentally concerned business. We invest in grey water recycling, low energy lighting, heat recovery and solar energy. We recycle cardboard, polythene, glass, cooking oil and plastic waste, and our carrier bags are 100% fully biodegradable. We are committed to promoting locally grown plants and organic peat-free alternatives.
Sustainable
Gardening
We encourage mulching, composting, water conservation, peat-free gardening and other sustainable gardening methods.
Energy
Efficiency
We use a large bank of solar panels for solar water heating, heat recovery and low-energy lighting.
Sustainable
Timber
Our timber products are sourced from certified sustainable sources whilst maintaining excellent quality.
Water
Efficiency
We collect rainwater to flush toilets and water our plants to maintain extra water efficiency and save resources.
Careful
Recycling
We recycle cardboard, polythene, glass and plastic waste. We also recycle our customers’ plastic plant pots – simply return them to us with your proof of purchase.
Social
Responsibility
We assist many different local charities for both adults and children and support the local community.
Trading
Fairly
We trade fairly and ethically with our trading partners and customers by following Trading Standards guidelines.
Healthy
Living
We produce many of our own cakes and other foods for our coffee shops and restaurants using healthy and natural ingredients.
Thinking
Local
We like to source goods locally to minimise our carbon footprint and support our local community.
Home
Grown
Most of the plants we sell are sourced from British nurseries or grown in our own Sussex nurseries.
According to the WEEE legislation, it is not acceptable to dispose of old electronic items with regular waste, and they should instead be taken to a central collection point for recycling. As part of our commitment to promoting environmentally responsible behaviour, we are pleased to offer our customers a Free Take-Back service for electrical waste products at our Garden Centres. We will hold on to your items until they can be collected by a reputable waste disposal company.
To ensure that consumers are reminded to dispose of electrical products properly, a crossed-out wheelie bin symbol should be displayed on all electrical products. This symbol serves as a reminder that these items should not be discarded with regular household waste. Unfortunately, over 75% of waste electrical goods end up in landfill sites, causing soil and water contamination that can negatively impact human health and the environment due to the lead and other toxins present in these products.
If you have electrical waste that needs recycling, you can bring it to our store, including small WEEE items measuring less than 25cm on their longest side. You may return these items for recycling on a like-for-like basis, and this offer is valid within 28 days of purchasing a new item from us, regardless of whether you bought it online or in-store. Alternatively, you can visit https://www.recycle-more.co.uk/home for information about recycling centres.
