Santa arrived in style on a 1926 Marshall 10 ton steam roller at Old Barn Garden Centre on Wednesday night as part of their Late Night Extravaganza Christmas event.

Graham and Darren Chaffer, the owners of the steam roller, began their day at 7:30am. The first job was to get the engine out of the shed and light the fire as it takes 2 – 3 hours to raise steam. There was plenty of cleaning and oiling of bearings to keep them busy while they waited. At 12 noon, they were ready to go but they waited for the rain to ease before making their way from Washington to Old Barn, a journey taking two and a half hours.

The coal for the trip was sponsored by Wiston Steam Rally and Santa's arrival was in aid of The Budding Foundation Charity, who operate the new grotto experience 'Santa's Enchanted Forest' opening at Old Barn Garden Centre on 30th November. All of the revenue from tickets sales goes straight to the charity and is spent supporting children and young people in Sussex.
