St Peter & St James Hospice have been presented with a cheque to replace stolen sponsorship money raised by staff at family-run South Downs Nurseries, Hassocks.

Garden centre staff had raised the cash whilst taking part in the hospice’s charity Firewalk, which took place at Plumpton Racecourse in March. Following the theft, the decision was made to raise the money again. A quiz night was held after the centre closed one evening in May, raising £350.

“We work closely with St Peter and St James, and it was heart-breaking telling them that the money raised by our fire walkers had been stolen.” Says Steve Parsons, Branch Manager, “We knew we couldn’t let them go without, and being able to present this cheque today puts a good end to an unfortunate situation.”

St Peter and St James Hospice is located in Chailey, near Lewes, providing hospice care to adults living in the surrounding area. They also support families and friends of patients through the challenges of bereavement and grief.
