Earlier this year, we donated some seed potatoes to Rock Farm, a working market garden and horticultural therapy project operated by One Church Brighton. At Rock Farm, they grow organic fruit and vegetables for markets in Sussex, facilitate therapeutic sessions for a wide range of vulnerable groups and develop a community of volunteers who find better health and relationships by spending time on the land. What a brilliant project!
Here are some photos of the early crop growing inside the poly-tunnel.
Local pet charity, Worthing Guinea Pig Rescue have recently had to rescue over 160 guinea pigs from a residence in Gosport, with at least 80 sows pregnant.
Lumpy Lodge Rescue Sanctuary/Community in Portslade was one of the charities who stepped in to help, taking on a number of pregnant sows. Mayberry and Lumpy Lodge have worked together in the past, so we didn’t think twice in offering them support, and provided the charity with food and bedding for the guinea pigs.
There's so much going on this weekend at South Downs Nurseries! The 'Keep It Local' Craft Show is running all weekend with over 30 stalls selling beautiful hand made crafts, wildlife artist and Chinese brush painter, Desiree Hart, is in residence in The Cube Gallery until Sunday and several of our food producers are in The Sussex Food Hall today offering free food tastings and extra special offers! (See our events page for days and times.)
And if that wasn't enough, The British Cactus and Succulent Society Show is taking place between 10-4pm. See you there!
