Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Golf Ball' is a compact, rounded evergreen shrub with small, glossy dark green leaves. It has a neat, ball-shaped habit, and grows up to 1.2 metres in height and width. This cultivar is highly valued for its dense, compact form, which makes it an excellent choice for small gardens or as a low hedge or border plant. In spring, it produces small, fragrant, purple-brown flowers that are inconspicuous but attractive to pollinators. After flowering, the shrub produces small, dark purple berries that are not edible but add ornamental interest to the plant. 'Golf Ball' is hardy to -5'C to -10'C and prefers well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. It is low maintenance, and only requires occasional pruning to maintain its shape. It is perfect for topiary balls or low hedging and seldom needs clipping. A really good replacement for Buxus.
