Leontopodium alpina (Edelweiss) 1 Litres
Leontopodium alpinum, commonly known as Edelweiss is a very curious looking alpine with soft white-felted flowers held above narrow green leaves. It is a small, perennial plant native to the mountains of Europe, including the Alps. The plant grows to about 5-20cm in height and forms dense, cushion-like mats of foliage. The leaves are densely arranged, covered with white hairs, and have a woolly texture. The flowers are small, star-shaped, and also covered in white hairs, with a yellow central disc.
Edelweiss is known for its beauty and rarity, and has been used as a symbol of Swiss Alpine regions for centuries.
In gardens, Edelweiss is often used in rock gardens, alpine gardens, or as a groundcover in sunny, well-drained areas. It prefers cool, dry conditions and is relatively low-maintenance once established.
