Honeycomb Mason Bee House
Add more valuable bee pollinators to your garden with The Honey Comb Modular Mason Bee House. Mason bees are a type of solitary bee. Solitary bees are more important than honeybees for pollinating crops and plants in the UK. Solitary bees are non-aggressive and do not swarm, so are safe around children and pets.
Solitary bees are naturally attracted to holes in wood which are becoming harder to find in modern gardens. A variety of solitary bees are active from March to Sept.
The bee house comes with bee nesting tubes, which are easily removed for annual cleaning and inspection in autumn/winter. Solitary bees lay their eggs inside the tubes and seal them with mud or chewed up leaves, so it is easy to tell if it is being used. The following year the adults and their offspring will use the same nest again, building up the numbers visiting your garden each year.
They measure 21cm across at the widest point and are 16cm deep. These Honey Comb-shaped Bee Shelters can be connected together to create a larger group.
Site the solitary bee house 1-1.5 metres high, in a sheltered site which catches the morning sun and near scented plants.
