Alocasia sarawakensis 'Yucatan Princess' is commonly known as elephant’s ear. Its leaves are glossy and puckered with reddish undersides, held on tall reddish-brown stems.
Perfect if you are looking for a dramatic, bold and exotic houseplant.
Thrives in warmth and humidity, ideal for a warm, light bathroom. Keep in bright, indirect sunlight, avoid direct sunlight as this can scorch the leaves. Water regularly in the summer, reducing through the winter. Mist the leaves regularly in summer to increase the humidity, occasionally wiping them with a damp sponge to keep the leaves glossy. Prefers warmer temperatures, no lower than 16°C, keep away from draughts.
The leaves of this elephant’s ear will die back each year as temperatures fall, fresh new growth will start to appear when brighter, warmer conditions return.
All parts may cause stomach upset if ingested, skin and eye irritant.
