Calathea lancifolia
Calathea lancifolia, also known as Rattlesnake Plant, is a tropical houseplant native to Brazil.
It has long, narrow leaves with dark green spots and edges and a light green center, resembling the skin of a rattlesnake, hence the common name. The undersides are a burgundy red and very tactile. The leaves have a distinctive rippled texture and grow up to 60cm in length.
Calathea lancifolia is an ideal indoor plant, not only is it beautiful to look at, it is non-toxic and it helps to purify the air by removing toxins.
Thrives in low to medium light conditions, direct sunlight will cause the leaves to fade and lose their markings. Prefers consistently moist soil but do not let the plant sit in water or very wet soil. High humidity is essential, mist regularly and place it near the shower from time to time to give it a boost.
