Red Cabbage 'Roderick F1' Strip Pack
3 FOR £10
Red cabbage, also known as purple cabbage, is a colourful and nutritious vegetable that is widely used in cooking and salads. It has a dense, crisp texture and a slightly sweet and earthy flavour that becomes more pronounced when cooked. To preserve its colour and flavour, it is recommended to cook red cabbage quickly over high heat, such as by stir-frying or roasting. I highly recommend Delia Smith's recipe for braised red cabbage.
Red cabbage is an excellent source of vitamins C and K, as well as dietary fibre and antioxidants. These nutrients have been shown to support immune function, promote heart health, and reduce inflammation.
To grow choose a location with full sun exposure and well-draining soil. Enrich the soil with compost or well-rotted manure to improve its fertility and texture. Keep the soil evenly moist, but not waterlogged. Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on weather conditions.
Protect from pigeons and caterpillars by covering with insect netting. Harvest the heads when they are firm and solid to the touch. Overall, red cabbage is a hardy and relatively easy-to-grow crop that can be a great addition to any vegetable garden.
