Pieris prefer acidic, well-drained soil and partial shade to full sun, though it is best protected from the hot afternoon sun. These are low maintenance plants. Occasional pruning is needed, which should be done after flowering, as the shrub sets its buds for the following year during the summer months. It is an excellent choice for borders, containers, and woodland gardens.
