A compact, evergreen shrub with holly-like, spiny, dark purple young foliage aging to dark green. Produces small, tubular, fragrant white flowers in late summer to autumn which are followed by black berries.
Grow in well-drained or moist but well-drained soil, will grow in sun or partial shade, the best leaf colouring will be maintained by planting in a sunny spot.
Provides interest throughout the year with its evergreen foliage. Makes an attractive plant in a border, tolerant to pruning, Osmanthus also makes a good hedging shrub. A low maintenance shrub that can be planted in many locations making it a great all rounder, ideal for woodland gardens, cottage or informal schemes, coastal and city/courtyard gardens.
