Chaenomeles are Japanese quinces and although considered to be ornamental the fruits can be used for cooking in the same way as quince from Cydonia oblonga trees. Chaenomeles form small hardy deciduous shrubs with a spreading habit. They are useful for training against a wall. 'Pink Lady' has clear pink flowers opening from darker pink buds and holds an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
