Primula 'Sunset Shades are a hybrid of the coomon cowslip It is a herbaceous perennial growing up to 30cm in height and produces clusters of nodding, bell-shaped flowers that bloom in spring. The flowers vary between red, orange and yellow colour and are sweetly scented, attracting bees and other pollinators. The leaves are dark green and slightly wrinkled, forming a rosette at the base of the plant.
Cowslip prefers moist, well-drained soil and partial shade, although it can also tolerate full sun in cooler climates. It is a great addition to any cottage garden, rock garden, or wildflower meadow, and pairs well with other early spring-blooming plants like bluebells and wood anemones.
