Japanese Painted Fern (deciduous) 2 Litres
Athyrium niponicum var. pictum, commonly known as the Japanese painted fern, is a deciduous perennial fern that is native to Japan, Korea, and China. It is a popular garden plant due to its striking colouration and unique texture.
The fronds of Athyrium niponicum var. pictum are a striking metallic greyish-green colour, with an overlay of silvery-white or purple hues, and a distinct purple-red central stem. The fronds grow in a vase-like shape and can reach up to 45cm in length.
This fern prefers partial to full shade and moist, well-drained soil. It is often planted in woodland gardens, rock gardens, and in containers. It is hardy and can tolerate temperatures down to -20°C.
Athyrium niponicum var. pictum has been awarded the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit for its outstanding performance in the garden. It can be propagated through division or spores, and is relatively easy to grow, making it a popular choice for gardeners.
