Cambridge is a classic English variety. Produces an excellent heavy crop of small, yellowish-green fruits that are juicy and fresh, honey flavoured. Great for eating fresh and making jams. Prefers a sheltered warm site. Will cross pollinate with plums.
Shropshire Prune, also known as the 'Greengage of Damson' is the Native of the West Midlands. A small hedgerow damson, very reliable cropper with intense flavour, delicious cooked into puddings, jams and for gin! Dark blue in colour, firm sugary flesh. Very similar to the damson variety 'Westmorland'.
Winter Gem is one of the best flavoured new apple varieties, it wins flavour contests consistently! Exceptional apple flavour, rich and aromatic with the perfect mix of sweetness and juiciness. Green attractive fruits are flushed with pinkish-red. A strong grower and needs good pollination as it can be a shy cropper in some years. Best on a dwarf rootstock such as M27 or M9.
Spartan is a heavy-cropping, very popular dessert apple of McIntosh type. Fruit is maroon, sweet, juicy and crisp with a white flesh. At best, perfumed with flavour like a cross between strawberry and melon; often described as vinous. An apple that ripens quite late in the season, usually in early October but needs to be well coloured before picked for its best flavour. Grown commercially in Canada and the UK. A very good pollinator for other varieties.
Red Falstaff is one of the best garden apple varieties for the UK, the select red sport of ‘Falstaff ’. Fruity, well balanced flavour, crisp and a very juicy apple which is great for home-juicing. Red flushed skin over greenish-yellow. Best when eaten fresh straight from the tree! One of the heaviest yielding varieties that keep very well and can be eaten throughout the winter. Highly recommended for every garden!
Red Devil is a stunning eating variety. As the name suggests, this apple has a striking red flush! Strong, fruity taste and superb fruity strawberry flavour. Red stained flesh when it's fully ripe that procudes an incredible pink juice! Highly decorative and an excellent garden variety. The interesting name was inspired by the ‘Red Devil’ parachute display team. A healthy tree with a good disease resistance. Very popular garden apple in the UK, but also in France, Holland and Germany.
Limelight is a mid-season eating apple, an improved Greensleeves type, abundant in cropping. Very suited to its name as the yellow-green fruits are almost luminous. The apple has a clean, smooth finish and seems to glow when ripe with the occasional attractive pink blush. Flesh is crisp, refreshing and rich in flavour. Very disease resistant and a very heavy cropper in suitable growing conditions.
Laxton's Superb is a well knnow, late dessert apple that is grown commercially in the Netherlands and the UK, and in private gardens. Purple flush and red stripes give this an old fashioned attractive appearance. Sweet and aromatic possessing certain similarities to Cox, can become biennial bearing. A good substitute for Cox’s Orange Pippin in colder exposed areas.
James Grieve is a well known, well flavoured early dessert apple. Red flush stripes over pale green with a creamy white, juicy, rather soft flesh. Excellent refreshing flavour and a reliable cropper. A deservedly popular apple which is grown commercially in the UK, usually as a pollinator for Cox. Can be used for eating, juicing and cooking, keeps its shape when cooked and is known to be one of the best apples to accompany a cheese board!

Gala is a highly coloured dessert apple that is one of the most popular supermarket apple varieties in the world! A reliable cropper of good, small, crisp and well flavoured fruit with a golden-yellow thin skin. Improved colour forms are grown commercially such as ‘Mondial’ and ‘Royal’ Gala which appear in the shops.
Fiesta is a tradtional English apple, an excellent garden tree with Cox-like characteristics. It's flavour is rich, aromatic and sweet with a crisp texture but rather tough skin. Flush is orange/red with short red stripes, slightly ribbed. A variety which is ideal for northern areas and is a very heavy cropper. Although classed as an eating apple, it can also be used for cooking and juicing keeping its delicious flavour and shape when cooked. Fiesta is a very popular variety which is grown commercially in Kent, Holland, Italy and New Zealand, but also a popular garden variety!
Cox Self Fertile is a self fertile form of Cox’s Orange Pippin. Heavy, late crop of the best eating apple in the world. The fruit is orange over greenish-yellow with deep cream flesh that has sweet, aromatic flavour and is juicy and crisp. Best when it's picked and eaten straight from the tree or can be made into home-pressed apple juice. Good variety for growing in northern areas of the UK. Striking pinkish-white clusters of blossom during the spring. A highly recommended variety for less than ideal Cox areas!

Bramley's Seedling is classed as the finest cooking apple in the world! Fruit is greenish-yellow flushed with light brownish/orange-red stripes and russet spots. A strong acid flavour and shiny skin. It cooks to a creamy, brisk-flavoured puree, or can be more slowly baked for tarts and pies. The apple can produce a delicious single-fruit juice or will make a full sharp cider. Also a good crisp eater with a sweet-sharp bite after its been stored. Susceptible to scab, resistant to mildew, canker and late frosts with a heavy crop. An overall excellent cooking variety that cannot be faulted!
Bramley 20 is a compact version of Bramley’s Seedling, 20% less vigorous with heavier crops. It can be used on several rootstocks, allowing Bramley apples to be grown in any size space. An exceptional sharp flavour and produces a delicious puree when cooked. Fruits are a pale green flushed red or orange. Pure white, cup-shaped blossom arrives in late spring. Highly recommended cooking variety for the smaller garden!

One of natures best kept secrets! Originating in the Himalayan highlands, it is thought to be one of the most powerful nutritional and anti-ageing foods. The attractive red berries have a mild, sweet liquorice flavour and contain more Vitamin C than an orange! They can be eaten fresh or dried on their own, or put in with muesli. The fruit is also rich in anti-oxidants and trace elements. Hardy and drought tolerant, Gojiberries are extremely easy to grow and highly prolific. Self polinating.

Bred by the Scottish Crop Research Institute, Ben Tirran is a late flowering variety that is vigorous and has a compact growth habit. It produces consistently heavy crops of very late ripening currants - excellent for extending the season, it also ensures that this variety has good resistance to frost. The attractive glossy fruit has a rich tart flavour and is probably best used in preserves and pies although it can be eaten fresh when newly picked - it also freezes well.

Mid season thornless variety. Generous cropper of medium to large sized fruit with excellent flavour. Due to its compact growth, Merton is an ideal variety for planting in small gardens and the short thornfree canes make maintenance simple. For best results, plant in half shade or full sun although Merton will tolerate shade and soil with less than efficient drainage. Hardy but can be vulnerable to hard frosts on very exposed sites.

An excellent very hardy and vigorous mid-season variety. Specifically bred in Finland for hardiness and disease resistance, Hinnonmaki Green is a consistently prolific cropper of very large, well flavoured fruit. The fruit is olive green in colour and has an excellent sweet, aromatic taste - ideal for eating fresh off the bush when fully ripe. Particularly resistant to powdery mildew.

Very popular variety, vigorous and heavy cropping - produces almost double that of other varieties. Large pale green berries, smooth skinned with an extremely sweet flavour. Essentially a culinary variety but can also be eaten fresh. The fruit is superb for cooking with as it stays firm and it also freezes well maintaining shape and flavour. Invicta is resistant to mildew and leaf spot.

This early modern Dutch variety is one of the earliest cultivars. It is strong growing and consistently produces heavy yields of large juicy fruit that hang on long trusses for easy picking. The currants are juicy and have excellent flavour so it’s no wonder that they are rated very highly by enthusiasts and growers alike. This variety does best when grown as a cordon.

A vigorous blackberry/raspberry hybrid. High yields of juicy, sweet, aromatic berries that can be twice the weight of a large raspberry. Consistently higher yielding than Loganberry, the long conical fruit is best picked when deep purple-red in colour. Excellent for jam making and puddings but can also be eaten fresh. The fruit freezes well too. The stout prickly stems require permanent support so train against a wall or fence. Self fertile.
